The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Animal Science is slated to host its annual Nebraska Beef Summit on Thursday, November 17 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Kearney, Neb.

The event is produced alongside Nebraska Cattlemen and planned by senior students in the Nebraska Beef Industry Scholars minor program. The program, unique to Nebraska, is open to all students on campus and develops the future leaders of the beef industry through multidisciplinary coursework including Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, and Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication (ALEC).

Kent Bacus, Executive Director of Government Affairs for the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, and Brenda Masek, President of Nebraska Cattlemen will provide national and statewide updates to open and close the event.

Implementing Traceability in the Beef Industry: Doug Stanton, Where Food Comes From/IMI Global

Current Market Outlook: Dr. Elliott Dennis, Department of Agricultural Economics at University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Nutrition Strategies and Grazing Management After a Drought: Dr. Jerry Volesky, Nebraska Extension Range and Forage Specialist; Axel Wiseman, Beef Nurtitionist with Furst-McNess Company; Luke Kovarik, Kovarik Cattle Company

Emerging Health Threats and FMD: Dr. Becky Funk, Nebraska Extension Animal Health Specialist, Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center at University of Nebraska

Registration is open and can be done online here. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m., and conclude at 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be catered on site and is included with registration.
