STEAK FRY
The Steak Fry event is the club’s largest fundraising event put on by the beef interest group that helps the club pay for things such as industry tours, meeting expenses and club awards. The event is also a way for the club members to be able to interact with friends, family, faculty and staff outside of a classroom setting. The steaks are donated by Cargill, who also helps to grill and serve up the steaks.
The 2023 event will be held on Friday, September 15 from 5-7pm at the Animal Science Complex. Advanced tickets are for sale below for $10 thorugh September 14. Your ticket will be good for one meal of steak, cheesy potatoes, beans, a cookie and a drink. The price will be $15 on the day of the event.

LITTLE AKSARBEN
Little Aksarben is a livestock showmanship competition for UNL students who have either shown livestock in FFA or 4-H, and also for students who do not have any experience showing livestock but are interested in competing. The students have a week or two to work with their animal(s) in preparation of the show. The animals usually consist of cattle, swine, sheep and goats.
BIG RED BEEF SHOW
Big Red Beef Show is an annual jackpot cattle show the club puts on. This year the 2023 Big Red Beef Show will be held March 10-11th at the Albion Fairgrounds in Albion, NE. The club facilitates the move in of cattle, check in, and showmanship on Friday. On Saturday the show is run as a two ring show, therefore the cattle exhibited essentially have two shows in one day. Exhibitors 21 and under are eligible to show. The show begins with breeding heifers followed by market cattle. PORKFEST
This event is put on by the Swine interest group and provides faculty, staff, students and industry members to get together to eat a pork loin sandwich while listening to an outside industry speaker. The proceeds help with industry tours and student awards.
Beef Pit
The Block and Bridle Club supports the Nebraska Cattlemen by helping to serve meals at the Beef Pit held during the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island
Lincoln Public School Kids Day Science Fair
Every year the club strives to promote agricultural awareness by attending the LPS Kids Day Science Fair. Club members provide information to the students about agriculture in the state and how that directly effects their lives.
Kimmel Orchard
The club is given the opportunity to work at the Kimmel Orchard during the Apple Jack Festival. The students make donuts, assist with the wine tasting counter and check out customers at the cash register. The members are able to see and participate in all the work that goes into making the festival and the orchard an amazing event for people to attend.
Honors Banquet
The Block and Bridle Honors Banquet is held annually in culmination with the Department of Animal Science Alumni Reunion Weekend and usually held in the Spring. Each year, the Block and Bridle Club selects an honoree who has contributed to Nebraska agriculture through leadership, service, youth projects, community activities and involvement with the university.
