University of Nebraska-Lincoln Equestrian Team Impresses at Western Home Show Tuesday, February 21, 2023
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Equestrian team hosted an Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) western show at R.B. Warren Arena in the Animal Science Complex on February 11th. Other competing institutions included Cloud County Community College (Kan.), Colby Community College (Kan.), Laramie County Community College (Wyo.), University of Colorado Boulder, and University of Wyoming.
There event featured two shows, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, during the event. The team also recognized senior members Sarah Eberspacher, Susan Venteicher, Emma Vazquez, Hadley Olson, Abby Hunter, Katrina Sell, Angelique Fuentes and Lexis Hennings for their accomplishments and contributions to the program.
Highlights included the team earning high point team at both the morning and afternoon shows and Eberspacher claiming the high point rider award also during both shows.
The western team will travel to Colby, Kan., on February 25 for the Colby Community College Spring Classic seeking an 18th consecutive regional championship with additional individuals seeking regional qualification. Current regional qualifiers include Emma Vazquez and Emily Jonas in Rookie B Horsemanship, and Sarah Eberspacher in Open Horsemanship and Reining, with the potential for Anna Lampereur to qualify in Open Horsemanship.
Following Saturday's competition, Nebraska will compete in the Zone 8, Region 5 Championships on February 26.
