Noble Genetics, Inc is a full service artificial insemination company located in Loma, CO.  Adam has been in business for over 20 years working with ABS Global as a sales representative.  We work very closely with our customer base breeding cattle all over Western Colorado, Eastern Utah, Southern Wyoming, and a few assigned areas in Nevada, Nebraska, and Tennessee. 

We are looking for self starting, motivated, hard working interns to join our team from the first of May to about mid July.  We travel to ranches all over the areas listed above, moving from one place to another daily working with customers of all different ranges.  In this short time, we will breed anywhere from 10,000-15,000 beef heifers and cows.

Center for Grassland Studies Summer Internship (2/2/24)

Requirements – Currently enrolled undergraduate student at the University of Nebraska. Major in Grassland Systems or Minor in Grazing Livestock Systems or Grassland Ecology and Management is preferred but not required. Valid driver’s license required.

Location – UNL Barta Brothers Ranch near Rose, NE 68714

Description – The Center for Grassland Studies is looking for an undergraduate intern to assist with land management and research activities for the Summer 2024 field season at UNL’s Barta Brothers Ranch (BBR). The BBR is roughly 6,000 acres of upland range located in the eastern Nebraska Sandhills. The primary responsibilities of the summer intern would be to assist with day-to-day tasks at the ranch as well as be involved with some of the larger-scale research projects occurring on site. Day-to-day tasks include fixing fence, spraying noxious weeds, and clearing eastern redcedar trees. Interns will have access to ATV’s and University fleet vehicles for necessary tasks across the ranch. Experience helps, but training can occur for highly motivated candidates. Interns will report to the Research Project Coordinator on-site for tasks and training of equipment use and pesticide handling. Research activities on the ranch can include plant and bird identification, data collection, and laboratory time. These research activities will change throughout the summer and training will be supplied for each new protocol. It is important that the intern is available to assist with data collection during peak research periods during the summer (mid-June and mid-August). Interns have the option of developing their own research project during the summer and registering for the course GRAS398R “Research Experiences in Grasslands” during the subsequent academic year. Applicants for this position must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at the University of Nebraska. A typical work week would be 40 hours Mon-Fri, with occasional longer days as needed.

Start – May 1 – May 15 (flexible)
End – August 15 – September 1 (flexible)

Compensation – Up to $15 per hour (dependent on prior experience)

Housing – provided at the Barta Brothers Ranch headquarters building

Summer Working Cattle Ranch Internship - River Bend Ranch, LLC (1/19/24)

River Bend Ranch, LLC of Limon, Colo. is looking to hire a Summer 2024 college student intern seeking a position on a working cattle ranch. This internship is designed for students interested in a career in production agriculture, with previous large animal experience required. River Bend Ranch is located west of Limon on I-70, which is an easy drive east of Denver 80 miles and east of Colorado Springs 70 miles.

Internship Experience & Benefits
Intern will gain experience in cattle management, veterinary practices, pressurized water systems, electric fencing and planned cattle matings. All work Is done using ranch trucks and ATVs, no horses are used. Tasks will include, but will not be limited to:
• Assisting with calving checks
• Identifying newborn calves
• Checking animal health of all classifications
• Moving herds through paddocks
• Tracking pasture growth
• Assisting with artificial breeding and vaccination programs
• Cattle record keeping
• Fence/corral construction
Intern will be provided:
• Furnished house; including, laundry and utilities (electricity, natural gas and water)
• Work vehicle

Qualifications
• College students interested in a career in production agriculture may apply that are currently attending a two-year junior college or four-year university
• Preference will be given to students with an agricultural/ranching background, and to students seeking an agricultural/animal science degree; previous large animal experience expected
• Three hours credit is possible through qualifying department internship programs
• Student must be available for internship from mid-May until mid-August, a minimum of 12 weeks
• Sophomore standing or above

Wage & Workload
Intern will be paid $12/ hour on 50 hour weeks, and alternate weekends off with ranch staff.

Summer Ranch Internship - Nielsen Ranch Co (1/19/24)

Nielsen Ranch Co is looking for ambitious, ride-for-the-brand, eager to learn students for paid summer 2024 internships. Nielson Ranch Co is a progressive cow-calf operation located in the Sandhills of Nebraska. You will learn ranch management concepts as well as day to day skills potentially including; calving, branding, haying, fencing, feeding, horseback cattle handling, cattle processing, estrus synchronization and artificial insemination.

Agriculture Internship - Muri Family Farm & Ranch (11/13/23)

The Muri Farm and Ranch is a family run operation in northwestern North Dakota, 10 miles north of Watford City. We farm approximately 2000 acres, run around 300 black angus/black sim x cows and 100 yearling heifers. Some years we also run some yearling steers. It is all dependent on spring moisture and pasture conditions.

Our family operation consists of Nathan and Megan Muri, their three small children and Nathan’s parents, Bob and Patsy Muri.

The heifers start calving April 1th with the cows following after April 25st. Calving is done by June 15th and branding happens the end of June. Branding is done with a hydraulic calf table and cattle work is done with ATVs. There is the possibility to attend neighbors’ brandings.

Farming begins the end of April. We are a no till operation and we grow spring wheat, barley, durum, soybeans, corn and some Sudan grass or millet. Haying typically starts the end of June and is pretty steady for 3 weeks. Grain harvest typically begins mid-August.

We will consider someone with no experience.  Jobs that you can expect include: haying, checking cattle, hauling out salt and mineral, fencing, and working cattle. Tractor driving experience would be appreciated. We run newer John Deere equipment.

Paid internship will run from May till August with flexible start and end dates. Housing consists of a nice, private, furnished, two-bedroom trailer house with dishwasher, washer, dryer and window air conditioner. Lunch and supper will be provided with breakfast being on your own. Some meals may be in a lunch box or on a tailgate. We are looking for one student but we would consider hiring two friends if they were both good candidates. Deadline to apply is March 1st. Position maybe filled sooner if qualified applicant is found before deadline.

We try to take Sundays off. We will do our best to allow you some free time other days as well. The hours can certainly vary depending on what season we are in. With our dry climate we do some haying at night or early mornings to take advantage of the dew.

National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) Policy Internship (11/3/23)

NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association which represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories.

Applicants should be classified as a sophomore or greater by their academic institution and have excellent written and oral communication skills. A basic understanding of the legislative process is preferred but not required. This internship does provide a monthly stipend but housing is not provided. Start and end dates are flexible.
Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Represent NASDA in congressional hearings, conference calls and other venues, and provide an analysis of these events to policy staff members
• Manage logistics, provide operational support and interface with senior state and federal agriculture
policy makers in a fast-paced environment during NASDA’s Annual Meeting (Fall) or Winter Policy Conference (Spring)
• Conduct research on various legislative issues of importance to NASDA’s membership
• Write articles covering various agricultural issues for NASDA’s weekly newsletters
• Monitor congressional calendar and other office administrative duties as assigned
