RESEARCH INTERESTS

• My overarching research career goal has been to contribute to the biological knowledge base surrounding food-producing animals. I have further narrowed this goal into understanding the role of feed in supplying nutrients to ruminant animals, especially lactating dairy cows that produce milk for human consumption. Broadly speaking, my research has been to fill a portion of the knowledge gap surrounding the nutritional value of ruminant feeds and their effects on lactation. More recently, I have focused on using indirect calorimetry to explore the effects of diet on nutrient use, excretion, and whole-animal energy utilization in lactating dairy cattle. My research has impacted the dairy industry by improving the nutritional knowledge of dairy producers and nutritionists to allow formulation of more effective and efficient diets.
