  • Initiated research that established the value of mixtures of grains with different rates fo ruminal digestion in beef finishing diets
  • Established that limesone additions in grain-based beef finishing diets improved feed efficiency 2.5% compared to supplying only the Ca requirement
  • Established the relative decline in feedlot performance of severity of liver abscesses
  • Established the effect of site within the liver on the trace element content of liver biopsy samples and the impact on determining trace element status of beef cows
  • Established that forages can provide complete supply of trace elements in certain situations in Nebraska
  • Established the value of using portal/arterial differences to determine the bioavailability of trace elements from different sources
  • Established no difference in organic and inorganic sources of Cu for reproduction or calf health when cows are managed properly

  • ASCI 240: Anatomy and Physiology of Animals
    Semester: Fall & Spring
    Summary: of the anatomy and physiology of domestic animals.
  • ASCI 250: Animal Management
    Semester: Spring
    Summary: Principles of managing animals in typical production systems. Basics of managing beef, dairy, horses, poultry, sheep, and swine through the life cycle for economic and efficient production.
  • ASCI 422/822: Advanced Feeding and Feed Formulation
    Summary: requires completion of an independent analysis of published research in a selected area of nutrition and submission of a written report. Feeding practices for domestic animals. Applied animal nutrition and feed formulation.
  • ASCI 451/851: Livestock Management on Range and Pasture
    Semester: Fall
    Summary: All students are required to participate in a one-week field trip in central or western Nebraska prior to beginning of fall semester. Therefore, students must notify instructor at time of early registration. (Dates are given in class schedule.) Analyzing the plant and animal resources and economic aspects of pasturage. Management of pasture and range for continued high production emphasized.
  • ASCI 485: Animal Systems Analysis
    Semester: Fall & Spring
    Summary: ASCI 485 is for majors in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources with an interest in careers in livestock production units, the meat industry, or related agribusiness. Goal setting, information gathering, and application of problem solving methods in animal science. Develops ability to analyze and solve problems in all segments of animal science by integration of information from all pertinent disciplines and sources.
