An event co-sponsored by Nebraska Extension and Fonner Park titled, “Race Nebraska: Functions, Foaling, and the Future,” will be held on April 4th in Grand Island, Neb., to help educate and increase awareness about Nebraska’s growing horse racing industry.
Participants will have the opportunity to visit the Stewards Stand during the running of a race to learn more about the role of track stewards and their important routine functions and responsibilities. During the seminar, Veterinarians and other professionals will also be on hand to provide information about caring for a pregnant broodmare and delivering her foal, as Nebraska-bred eligible racehorses are critical to the state’s growing racing industry and are eligible for Nebraska breeder incentives and stallion awards. Information about those incentives and awards, race dates, purses, racetrack and casino management will be provided by the Nebraska Thoroughbred Breeders Association and the Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA). Representatives from the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission and Nebraska State Senators will also attend to answer questions and share information.
Pre-register online at https://cvent.me/Wd1y9k and is $25 until March 28, or $35 at the door via cash or check only. Complimentary appetizers and a cash bar will be available. Racing begins with first post at 4 p.m., and the seminar follows the final race at approximately 6:30 p.m. Visits to the steward stands will start at 5 p.m., are limited availability, and can be signed up for during the online pre-registration process.
