The University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host the 2026 International Symposium on Beef Cattle Welfare on June 1-3 on Nebraska's East Campus.

Founded by a cooperating team of U.S. and Canadian animal scientists and veterinarians, the symposium is a biennial event hosted in rotation by partner institutions in both countries. This is the first-time the event is being held in-person since 2018.

Co-chaired by Dr. Ruth Woiwode and Dr. Brian Vander Ley, the theme for the event is "Bridging Research and Practice for the Future of Beef Cattle," and will include talks, roundtables, and panel discussions on foundations and practical tools, and the past, present, and future of beef cattle welfare. Sessions will take place in both the Nebraska East Campus Union and the Animal Science Complex.

The event is accredited by American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists (ARPAS) and will offer 13 hours of CE for ARPAS members.

The cost is $175 for students and $350 for professionals through May 17. The cost increases to $200 for students and $400 for professionals on May 18. An interactive, pre-symposium workshop will also be held from 12:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., on June 1. The workshop is $60 until May 17, before the cost increases to $75.
