USDA AMS Establishes Cattle and Carcass Grading Correlation Training Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Thursday, February 23, 2023

The USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) announced that the University of Nebraska-Lincoln would be the site of one of three regional Cattle and Carcass Grading Correlation Training Centers on Wednesday.

West Texas A&M University and Colorado State University join Nebraska as the other regional sites.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Equestrian team hosted an Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) western show at R.B. Warren Arena in the Animal Science Complex on February 11th. Other competing institutions included Cloud County Community College (Kan.), Colby Community College (Kan.), Laramie County Community College (Wyo.), University of Colorado Boulder, and University of Wyoming.

Livestock Judging Team Competes at Cattlemen's Classic Monday, February 20, 2023

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Livestock Judging team had a successful weekend at the Nebraska Cattlemen's Classic on February 18 in Kearney, Neb.

Nebraska finished in third and fifth in the high team overall, while also bringing home a third high team placing and a third high team in reasons.

Brett Forgy finished in third high individual overall, was the high individual in feedlot cattle, and was fifth high individual placing and sixth high in individual reasons.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Equestrian Team Opens 2023 with Third Place Finishes Thursday, February 9, 2023

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Equestrian Hunt Seat Team competed at the Zone 8 - Region 5 Winter Series Horse Show On February 4-5 in in Colorado Springs, Colo. Nebraska finished 3rd team overall on both Saturday and Sunday. Laurene Tomka pointed out of Introductory Equitation and will be headed to Regionals in March along with previous point-ups, Anna Lampereur, Ainslie Suyko, and Maddy Casey.

The team will equestrian team will host its Western Home Show on February 11 and events begin at 9 a.m.

83 Animal Science Students Named to Fall 2022 Dean's List Friday, February 3, 2023

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has announced 83 students in Animal Science were named to the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) Dean's List for Fall 2022. These students had a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher based on a minimum of 12 graded semester hours.

Over 6,900 students were named to the Deans' List for the fall semester at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, including 614 CASNR students.

Congratulations to these students for their hard work during the fall semester of 2022!

McCarthy and Xiong Both Earn Endowment Awards at Nebraska Cattlemen Convention Friday, December 9, 2022

Two Department of Animal Science faculty at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln were recently awarded endowments for their work in the beef industry during the annual 2022 Nebraska Cattlemen Convention in Kearney, Neb., on Dec. 6-9.

Dr. Kacie McCarthy, an assistant professor, and cow-calf extension specialist, and Dr. Yijie Xiong, an assistant professor, and precision livestock management extension specialist, were recipients of the Nebraska Beef Industry Endowment and the Nebraska Range and Conservation Endowment, respectively.
