Research
My beef cattle nutrition research focuses on use of byproducts for growing and finishing beef cattle, use of grain and silage for cattle, and the interaction between nutrition, management, and environmental issues including air quality and nutrient management. A portion of recent research has been evaluating greenhouse gas flux from beef systems from cow-calf through finishing and methods to decrease enteric methane emissions. Along with graduate students, I have published approximately 460 extension articles, 440 abstract presentations, and over 195 scientific journal articles.
Extension
My extension outreach programs focus on programmatic areas to improve feedlot nutrition and management with emphasis on use of grain, silages, and byproducts for feedlots as well as methane and greenhouse gas fluxes in beef systems. Targeted stakeholders include feedlot nutrition consultants, feedlot producers, managers, and employees, and consumers.
