The Loeffel Meat Shoppe and its shoppers celebrated National Beef Month in May with a promotion that led to 700 lbs., of ground beef being donated to local non-profit organizations.
As part of its “Buy One, Give One” promotion, the store on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s East Campus matched its customers’ ground beef purchases pound for pound in May, donating the match to local non-profit organizations that help feed those in need throughout the community.
“When we decided to do this promotion, we weren’t sure what to expect,” said Jordan Wicks, extension meat specialist. “We’re always looking for ways to support the local community and the response from our customers far exceeded our expectations.”
The Loeffel Meat Shoppe is open weekly on Tuesdays from 1-5:30 p.m. and Fridays from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. (excluding holidays). The store will also be open on select Saturdays this summer during East Campus Discovery Days on June 14, July 12, and August 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Located at 3940 Fair Street in Lincoln, the shoppe is a USDA-inspected retail meat sales operation offering fresh and frozen cuts of beef, pork, lamb, goat, smoked and slicing sausages, brats, naturally cased wieners, multiple varieties of ready-to-eat snack sticks, in addition to fresh eggs. It has been open and operating since the 1960s.
