Leo Lucas, Professor Emeritus of Animal Science, Passes Away

Dr. Leo Lucas

Leo Lucas passed away November 13 in Green Valley, Arizona. Six weeks short of his 93rd birthday. Formerly from Lincoln, Nebraska he had a life well lived And was known for his smile. He graduated from South Dakota State University in 1954 with a masters degree and completed his PhD from Oklahoma State in 1959. After graduation, Leo accepted a position at the University of Nebraska where he spent 32 years working for U of N. He held many positions, including professor spent two years of chairman of the science selection in Columbia, South America, Director for research and extension in North Platte,NE , Dean And Director of Nebraska's cooperative extension services. Leo and Janette retired to Green Valley, AZ. where they filled their time with golf, shuffle, hiking cards, and great friends. Leo survived by his wife of 69 years Janette children Mike (Rhonda), Barry (Vanessa) Roxana (Randy) four grandchildren Shawn, Taylor, Casey, and Austin. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made in Leo's name to the University of Nebraska foundation for the extension fund. www.ncfoundation.org.
