Bo Garcia

Bo Garcia has joined the Department of Animal Science as an extension assistant professor for 4-H Livestock and Meat Education. He began his new role on July 1.

In his role, Garcia will develop, deliver, and direct an innovative statewide livestock and meat program for youth that includes all stages of production from animal selection, proper feeding and management, and conversion to meat products for human consumption. In addition, he will, among other things assist with statewide 4-H youth livestock and meat educational programs, carcass contests, the Nebraska State Fair livestock competitive and educational events, the Premier Animal Science Event (PASE), FFA Career Development Events, and other livestock and meat events.

"I am both grateful and excited for this amazing opportunity," said Garcia. "My appreciation for this industry continues to grow as I interact with scientists, extension educators, producers, processors, cattlemen, and the many others that dedicate their lives to the livestock, meat, and allied industries. In this role, it is my ultimate goal to provide students and youth with opportunities even greater than my own and simultaneously share the importance of our profession."

He is currently a Meat Science Graduate Research Assistant and Ph.D. student in the Department of Animal Science. He earned his B.S. in Animal Science with a certificate in Meat Science from Texas A&M University in 2019, before earning his M.S. in Animal Science and Meat Science Extension Education from The Ohio State University in 2021. He currently coaches the meat judging team at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, after previously coaching the meat judging team at Ohio State, and was a member of the Texas A&M meat judging team in 2018.
