The Animal Welfare Judging team traveled to University of Wisconsin-River Falls to compete at the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Animal Welfare Assessment Contest on November 22-24.
The annual contest challenges participants to assess the welfare of various animal species using science-based evaluations and ethical reasoning. The 2024 contest included lactating dairy cows, laboratory frogs, african penguins in a zoo setting, and dogs in commercial breeding operations.
Competitors for University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the undergraduate division were Lily Nuss, Nick Prosek, Grace Regier, Stephany Uribe-Villegas. Regier placed fourth as an individual in the division. Abigail Horner and Morgan Marquardt were the lone competitors for Nebraska in the veterinary and graduate division, respectively.
