The University of Nebraska-Lincoln meat judging team scored a school record 4,183 points on its way to a third place finish at the Eastern National Meat Judging Contest on September 20 in Wyalusing, Pa.
In the team scoring, Nebraska was first in placings, second in beef judging, third overall in beef, fourth in beef grading, pork judging, and total reasons, and fifth in lamb judging.
Individually, Jaylea Pope set a new school record with 1,062 points to finish as third high individual, fourth overall in beef, sixth in beef judging, ninth in beef grading, and 10th in placings. Noah Summers finished with 1,061 points as fourth high individual, was first in placings, second in pork judging, fourth in total reasons, seventh in beef judging, and 10th in overall beef. Kylie Beard was 10th high individual, third in beef judging and overall beef, fifth in total reasons, sixth in beef grading, seventh in pork judging, and eighth in placings. Reagan Rippy was eighth high individual (Alt), fourth in beef judging, fifth in overall beef, and 10th in total reasons. Madison Woerhle was first in beef judging (Alt), second overall in beef, seventh in total reasons, and ninth in beef grading and placings. Grace Schleuter rounded out the finishers as seventh in lamb judging (alt) and 10th in total placings.
The team will travel to Omaha, Neb., on October 19 to compete in the American Royal.
