Description: Do you have a child that has a passion for animal training? Is he or she looking for new opportunities to practice handling your family dog? If you said yes to either of these questions, we have the solution for you! The University of Nebraska-Lincoln now offers a unique and fun opportunity to teach kids about dog care and proper handling skills with our brand new camp, Fur Your Information (FYI).
What to expect?
This interactive camp, tailored for 4-H kids ages 8-18, develops teamwork with the family dog and builds confidence for handlers and dogs alike. Through three sessions, this camp keeps on giving! Over the course of FYI, students will learn about and practice showmanship, rally obedience, and agility. With this introductory information, kids will be encouraged to pursue additional avenues within the dog training world to practice applying their newfound knowledge of animal behavior, positive reinforcement, and motivation. Additionally, the camp will reinforce your dog’s basic obedience skills, increase problem solving abilities, and improve fitness level.
In addition to hands on activities with dogs, youth will learn more about the science behind dog care. Sessions on nutrition, health, and behavior will be included.
No previous training knowledge or experience? No problem! Students are welcome to enroll so long as your dog knows basic obedience and good on-leash control. Sign your child and family dog up today to enjoy this great learning and bonding experience, for it can have a lasting impact on patience, focus, and teamwork that extends into other areas of life!
Spots are limited to 12-15 people.
