The 4-H member qualifying for this level should know and be using thebasics covered in previous levels. He or she should demonstrateabilities in handling horses that clearly show competence gained inactually performing more advanced work based upon the basic pointslearned. Response and willingness of the horse to the rider's commandswill have bearing on judging the rider's qualifications. At this stagethe members should understand the techniques of gaits, feeding, aging ahorse and disease factors. In order to pass Level III, the 4-H'er mustshow proficiency and confidence in ALL portions of the test: written,demonstration, written report and skills. Once a section has beenpassed, it need not be repeated. However, if a member fails to pass asection of the levels test, that entire-section must be repeated (i.e.,retake the written exam or retake the entire Skills Test).
Each section may be repeated as many times as necessary forsuccessful completion. NOTE: The entire riding portion of Level IIImust be done with a single horse and be ridden with one hand on thereins | Western riders) or two-handed (English riders). Exception:Horses 4 years old or younger, if ridden with a snaffle bit or bosal asdescribed in the Nebraska 4-H Horse Show and Judging Guide, may beridden two-handed.
The horse used for the Skills Test should be 3 years old or older.
I. Club Demonstration
a. Give a club demonstration on any of the subjects listed on page22 of the manual. (Demonstration should be completed prior to theWritten and Skills Test . Suggested length: 10-20 minutes) NOTE: A different demonstration must be done for each horsemanship level.

II. Written Report

IV. Health Care Paper
a. A paper (minimum of 2 pages] on common parasites and diseases andhow to control both. Set up a disease and parasite prevention programwith your veterinarian and summarize your program in your paper. Youshould include dates, vaccines, de-wormers, methods, of administration,etc.

VI. Skills Test
